Virgin Mobile wanted to refresh their customer referral incentive and bring it into line with the ‘Robin da Hood’ themed brand campaign that had recently been launched.
After renaming the program ‘More the Merrier’, my partner and I sold in the idea of bringing the monetary value of the scheme to life through wads of Robin da Hood themed stripper dollars that Virgin Mobile members could share with their friends. (We referred to them as banknotes around the client)
Working with Milan-based illustrator Lorenzo Petrantoni, we created some rather intricate notes that used a collection of weirdoes and wacky objects to reflect Robin da Hood’s style of blending the old with the contemporary.
Virgin Mobile customers are only allowed to take advantage of the scheme 5 times every 6 months, so the bundle of notes had a $175 note as the cover note and five $35 notes underneath it. The cover note explained the program to the customers, while the $35 notes were vouchers for their friends to bring into a Virgin Mobile store when they signed up.
